Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to support and improve existing manufacturing equipment on the plant floor. This role focuses on designing simple, reliable mechanical adjustments, modifying and retrofitting current machines, and working directly with maintenance and operations to implement improvements that hold up in real production environments.
This is not a purely desk-based design role. The ideal engineer is comfortable being on the factory floor—measuring, testing, adjusting, and troubleshooting equipment—while ensuring changes are safe, repeatable, and production-ready.
Duties
- Design and implement simple, durable mechanical adjustment mechanisms for existing manufacturing equipment
- Modify and retrofit machines already on the production floor to improve performance and reliability
- Work hands-on with equipment to measure, test, adjust, and troubleshoot mechanical designs
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and vendors to install and refine machine improvements
- Ensure all mechanical changes are safe and compliant with machine guarding and safety standards
- Create repeatable adjustment methods that remain stable under heat, vibration, and continuous operation
- Test changes on live equipment and refine solutions through final production implementation
Requirements
Mechanical Design & Adjustment Experience
- Experience designing practical mechanical adjustment mechanisms such as brackets, slides, screws, mounts, or similar components
- Able to design adjustments that lock in place and remain stable under heat, vibration, and high-speed operation
- Understands how to make adjustments repeatable using reference points, markings, or scales
Equipment Modification & Retrofit Experience
- Proven experience modifying, improving, or retrofitting existing manufacturing equipment
- Comfortable working with machines already on the production floor—not just new designs
- Working knowledge of machine safety, guarding, and making changes without creating safety risks
Hands-On & Cross-Functional Work Style
- Willing and able to spend time on the plant floor measuring, testing, and adjusting equipment
- Experience working directly with maintenance teams, operators, and external vendors
- Able to test changes on live equipment, troubleshoot issues, and refine designs through final implementation
